The Mountreat Retreat Experience
Our retreats are designed around the belief that movement, sport, and nature are powerful tools for healing. Participants engage in skiing and snowboarding lessons, not just as a recreational activity, but as a way to reconnect with their bodies, regain confidence, and release emotional tension through motion.
HOW THE DAYS LOOK LIKE
Each day is carefully structured to balance physical activity with therapeutic support:
-
Morning Sessions: The day begins with an alternative healing session, incorporating guided imagery, yoga, meditation, or breathwork—helping participants ground themselves before stepping onto the slopes.
-
On the Mountain: Throughout the day, participants are fully immersed in skiing or snowboarding, supported by dedicated instructors and Mountreat team members, who guide them both in technique and in the personal journey of resilience and self-discovery.
-
Evening Processing Circles: After a day of movement, participants come together for group processing sessions, facilitated by clinical psychologists and licensed social workers. These sessions provide a space to unpack emotions, share experiences, and integrate the healing that takes place on the mountain.
-
Intensive Therapeutic Workshops: In addition to the daily group circles, structured therapy sessions are offered to focus more deeply on combat-related trauma, post-traumatic stress, and personal growth.
At Mountreat, we have found that this combination
the power of sport, the serenity of nature, and the support of a community that understands
is a winning formula for healing and renewal.
While the week includes free time and recreational activities, the foundation of the retreat remains the balance between sport and structured therapeutic conversations. This integration of movement, nature, and guided emotional work creates a uniquely effective and transformative experience.
